In 2008 Lietz teachers in grades 1-5 began a flexible reading program to provide targeted reading instruction to students. The premise behind the program is based on the idea that students will engage more and feel more successful when the instruction is at their ability level. During reading instruction, students are grouped among the teachers at a particular grade level and receive instruction based on assessed needs. We are finding great success with this program. On early release Wednesdays the teacher collaborate as a team to look at how students are progressing, plan lessons, and determine areas of emphasis.
